Hello Zulema ,

The best way to get started in ultrasound technology is to first gain the training and education necessary in the field. Most ultrasound technicians have either a certificate, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree in ultrasound technology or a related field. Many individuals also have a background in biology and anatomy, as well as computer science. Once you have the necessary training, research potential employers and internships in your area to get some hands-on experience. Additionally, consider joining a professional organization dedicated to ultrasound technology, like the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, to keep up with advancements in the field. Finally, get certified in this field. All of these steps will help you to get the right experience and knowledge needed to land an ultrasound technician job.

I hope this helps. Good luck

assuming you have already observed an ultrasound tech working and you know this is a career you would consider, go to the school of your choice and speak with a counselor. often times there are pre-requisites and a certain GPA that are needed before you can be accepted into an ultrasound program. pre-req classes would be like anatomy and physiology, math classes, possibly chemistry, etc. counselor can tell you that. the counselor can also help you figure out your finances, scholarships, grants, etc. its a great carreer!

Kendra’s Answer

Ultrasound tech is a GREAT career path! Ultrasound techs are pretty satisfied with their career choice, they're also in high demand! Also- they make about 70k+ a year with just an aasociates.

Ultrasound programs can be competitive to get in to, depending on where you apply.

However, I would recommend the following:
1. Shadow your local hospital, volunteer on a ultrasound unit, or even contact an OBGYN to shadow. Ask to spend the day with a US tech to see if that's something you can see yourself doing
2. If it is - Contact your local community Colleges, see which ones have a US program
3. If still in high school, see if your school has a relationship with a community College to complete some of the pre-requisite classes (usually for free or at a discount rate)

The job shadowing and researching will be your best bet to see if this is something you'll like! There is a ton of great fields in healthcare, and this is on of them!

Good luck!
