That depends! As stated above, $200,000-400,000 isn't uncommon.

In-state public medical schools are usually a bit more affordable. It looks like it costs about 30,000$ per year in-state in Florida though that varies school to school. So $120,000 for 4 years, not including living expenses, fees, materials, etc.

However! There are some really good programs that can pay you to go to med school while they pay your tuition. They do require a service commitment but it's worth looking into! Other options include working in under-served communities later to qualify for student-loan forgiveness.

Good luck!

Kess recommends the following next steps:

Military route goes through the Health Professions Scholarship Program: https://www.medicineandthemilitary.com/applying-and-what-to-expect/medical-school-programs/hpsp
National Health Service Corps operates similar to the military but stays within the US: https://nhsc.hrsa.gov/scholarships/overview

Susan’s Answer

Depending on the medical school you go to, it can cost $200,000 to $400,000 for the 4-years.

Ivy league & private medical schools eg:
Stanford
Harvard
Yale
Univ. of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia
Duke
Emory
cost about $100,000 per year(tuition + living expenses), so total for 4 years will be $400,000.

Caribbean medical schools (they follow the US curriculum) eg:
St. Georges University medical school, Grenada
Ross University medical school
AUC
Saint James School of Medicine, Anguilla - $30,000 per year.
cost anywhere from $50,000 to $30,000 per year (tuition + living expenses), so total for 4 years will be $200,000.

Susan recommends the following next steps:

Before applying to medical school, it is a very good idea to do undergraduate courses in BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, & STATISTICS.

Anastacia’s Answer

My son went to UCF for his first 2 years. He had grants and scholarships. He then decided for the following 2 years which was the nursing school part, he would come back to S FL and attended Broward college nursing school. It was said to be one of the toughest colleges. He saved SO much money and he had state and local grants still coming in. He didn’t have to pay for the extremely ridiculous off campus housing. Just went in on a house rental with friends so rent was super cheap. He is now a RN in the pediatric unit of our local hospital. He’s making AMAZING money and only owes 30k total. He’s going to do some travel nursing soon and those contracts pay around 3k a week and your rent. Usually a 13 week contract. He is then planning on going back to school to become a nurse practitioner which in the state of FL means he can open his own clinic and write prescriptions. I hope this helps and finds you well.
