In high school, the best is to start taking different science and math classes to help determine if you enjoy those subjects and they will help get you into an undergraduate program. In college, you can major in which ever field you would like, but in order to apply to and qualify for veterinary school, there are required classes that you will need to take - a variety of science and math classes - which either your college advisor can help you choose or you can find out those specific requirements from the veterinary schools themselves.

Another great thing I'd recommend is seeing if any local veterinarian clinics/hospitals are looking for work or volunteering. I worked as a janitor at a vet clinic which helped me see what the career was really like.

If you are thinking of pursuing your doctorate in veterinary medicine there will be four years worth of classes relevant to everything necessary for becoming a veterinarian. As far as classes you need to take for your undergrad to help prepare you for veterinary school are science classes like biology, microbiology, chemistry or anatomy. And maybe even some math classes like statistics or clinical mathematics. While in veterinary school the classes will solely focus on animal health, nutrition, pharmacology, behavior, surgery, etc. While in high school there isn't much you can do but you could try and shadow a veterinarian for a few days or even try to volunteer or work at an animal clinic just to kind of get the feel for things and even talk with veterinarians about what school was like for them, ask what classes they took and which ones were the hardest and even ask what there undergrad degree is to give you an idea for the future :)
