James’s Answer

Safety, Safety, Safety. I was an electrician for Holcim Ste. Gen. cement plant. We dealt with everything from 4-20 Ma to 4Kv. It was nothing on a normal day to rack in and out 4 kv buckets then troubleshoot some instrumentation. I would say never do anything you not comfortable with and always keep learning. The guy that "knows" everything will get you hurt or worse.

Dan’s Answer

Being an electrician is actually very safe so long as you get the required training to know the trade. The working conditions are sometimes difficult depending on where you work. I did underground electrical work and it could be cold, rainy, or very hot but it was usually great because I was working outdoors in California. Underground electrical is working with outdoor projects like stoplights, streetlights, traffic controls (loops), and other more advanced projects. It is fun but can be a bit hazardous working in congested areas. However, the safety protocols are good at keeping people safe.
