Hi Hellen-
I believe your asking- does an internship provide valuable insight about a career or company?
I would advise that internships and volunteering are highly valuable experiences, and depending on which organization or role you do will determine how much value you'll get.
Factors to consider with an internship or volunteering is: do I like this organization, am I interested in the work I'll be doing/learning, is this a requirement for school, and also "do I feel valuable".
A lot of companies and organizations take advantage of volunteers/interns, so be precautious with where you dedicate your time.
Another great option is asking a company to job shadow for a day or two. This will give you the highest "behind the scenes" without having to make a full commitment. Maybe consider job shadowing a organization you're interested in, and if you really like the company- look into seeing if you can intern or volunteer! It can be a great way to get a higher value internship.
