If you received a misdemeanor in a state years ago, does that affect one from obtaining a job?

I received a misdemeanor years ago, yet am still looking for a position. It wasn't theft or anything, just mischief. Will a hiring manager consider this when deciding on hiring me or can they see it was for what it was a mistake and funny when discussed. #hiring #recruiting #human-resources

Misdemeanors are a criminal offenses, and will appear on background checks.

Definitely disclose any misdemeanor conviction on paper or in-person, if asked.

Ordinance violations shouldn't appear on background checks.

Prosecution of crimes designated as misdemeanors is limited to two years after the offense has been committed. In general a crime that was committed years ago is not worth most peoples interest or attention and are considered best left in the past.

It depends on the offense and the nature of the job for which you are applying. Most employers look back 7 years and most look at felonies, but that isn't always the case. When completing the application, the employer should make their intentions abundantly clear.

Honesty is always the best way to go. When you have an interview bringing up the topic and sharing your side and details could be the difference between landing the job or not getting a call back. Now yes there are some people who wont appreciate this offering, and they will allow that to be the basis of weather or not they choose to hire you. On the other hand you have realistic people who may have had the same or similar worry when he/she applied for that very company and they will appreciate your cander. Most people try to look past small infractions when being a part of the hiring process, looking for the qualities they desire such as honesty, punctuality, and be reliable and dependable as well as how well you will fit into that position and the people involved in that are. I have been a hiring manager for many companies and I am expressing how i use to think when in the situation, but i have found many of the other managers, including the higher up that gave me my position, they tend to share my same opinion. Hopefully this will help you in your process and at the very least be a comfort and boost of confidence in who you are, your abilities, and the value that they would be adding by inviting you into their family.
