How do you find a Good Job?

Thank you comment icon Ask your self this FIRST!! What makes YOU HAPPY MOST.???? Trust me :::::::you will NEVER be happy in a "Good" job Unless you are doing something that makes you yourself feel fulfilled, happy & at peace with yourself. I have taken jobs just because. Jobs that made me feel like dirt as a person, NOT what made me happy & fulfilled.. Hard lesson to learn. Mark King

Start with what you're looking for out of a job. Flexible schedule? Team work versus independent work? On site or remote? This will help you filter out jobs that will be more of a pain than they're worth. Every job has it's stresses, but you need to know what your priorities are in order to find a job that will be worth it to you.

I would start with defining how you measure 'good'. That can be different for everyone. What are you looking for and what are your expectations. Once you know that, you can apply those requirements against job positions and determine if it's the right fit for you. Make sure that it is truly something you will enjoy doing, since you'll be spending a good portion of your day doing it.

Thank you for your question. This is a good question.
To find a good job, it is just a marriage. The job is suitable to you and are are suitable for the job as well. In other words, you may need to possess the relevant qualification and experience of the job.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about the jobs you have interest
2. Look for the recruitment post of relevant jobs on the corporate career portal, Linkedin or other Job Search website, recruitment agent websites, etc.
3. Read the job requirement in details to ensure you possess the relevant qualification. You can consider to attend the relevant training or courses if applicable.
4. Prepare your cv with highlights on the relevant experience and qualification
5. Submit the application
6. If you have the interview opportunity, please well prepare and punctual

Hi Ray!

Jessica is absolutely correct! It starts with introspection. How do you define "good job"? Keep in mind, that definition will change over the course of your life. What is important to you? If, like many young people, you want to be able to contribute to the betterment of Humankind, perhaps you want to work on a project like Habitat for Humanity. There you will have the opportunity to learn, move up, and teach others.

Other jobs might be more focused on "production" - how many, how fast, with limited breaks.

These are just examples, check them out for yourself.

Also, the state of NY is unlike most other states. I think you have unions or guilds, so, you might need to join those and go through them to get a job. Here in Texas, all you have to do is walk up on a construction site and talk to the foreman, and you'll be building houses by the end of the week.

Do you want to be a framer or a finish carpenter? Do you have your own tools and the standard safety equipment?

In construction, Safety is paramount. Team work is paramount. It's no place for bruised egos. So, think of ways you can demonstrate these things. Sports, for example, includes all of it. Be able to give examples that show you are a responsible individual, mature enough to work on a jobsite where it is possible to get severely injured, and that you have good attendance.

If you have to submit a resume, remember to focus on these important things. There are lots of resources on-line to help with resume writing. You can google something like "resumes for carpenters" and find some examples.

Also, keep in mind, when you are just starting out, sometimes your first job or two is just that - just a job. That's okay. They are stepping stones. Still do your best and keep in mind those bosses and co-workers might someday be needed as references.

Hey Ray!

When you say good, what do you mean? If you're trying to find a job where you can make quick money i would suggest uber, doordash, Lyft, Instacart, Task rabbit.

If you're looking for a long term career then you really need to narrow down what you want to do. Ask yourself, what you're good at? Think about things you've done in high school whether that's classes or extra curricular. For example if you're good at writing you may want to google "jobs for writers" or "jobs within the english or journalism field". You'd be surprised what jobs you find that you can do outside of journalism. For example there are some people with english degrees that are working in the Tech field as "Technical Writers".

As far as applying for jobs, you have the obvious route of searching via indeed, but i also recommend making a Linkedin profile.

After you create a Linkedin profile, you can search for jobs and also connect with recruiters from those jobs. For example, if you find a job as a carpenter at XYZ company. Apply to the role and then type in Linkedin search by "Recruiter at XYZ company" or "manager at XYZ company" OR "carpenter at XYZ company" you will then see people who work at the company and you can reach out to them and say something like "Hello, i'm Ray. I see you work at XYZ company and would love to get some insight on the day to day or what it takes to be successful at the company. I recently applied to the role and would love any insight or tips you may have". Don't be discouraged if people don't reply, you still need to ASK and reach out. If they do reply start the conversation and then after your initial conversation you can follow up and ask them if they are able to contact the recruiter or hiring team on your behalf. Sometimes it's all about who you know and getting referred.
