There’s usually a maybe requirement that a union apprenticeship is looking for. I would inquire with your local IBEW apprenticeship about what all their requirements are. If you don’t have a decent high school math grade you may want to take a college level class to refresh and also mee the requirement.

College is the foundational route to go, it provides the basic requirements and certifications to get you started. Apprenticeship in some companies may also require some certifications. Pursuing college and internship simultaneously can equip you with the knowledge and experience that apprenticeship offers. I would suggest that you enquire information on the requirements of the company that you are seeking apprenticeship from.

Hi Joshua.
Having adequate knowledge and skills in college is the right thing to do. It will give you a deeper understanding of what the career is all about.
However, be determined to do what you want for yourself and be happy in the long run.

Hello, Joshua
First hand, you would probably need to analyze any alternative changes if your looking to change career paths. From a electrician towards another interest. find out what changes you will need such as: the type of work- life balance you prefer. The income range that fits your life style . And is this change for now or the future?
Finally, with college and apprenticeship both are great assets. The differences is college gives a broader range of choices whereas, apprenticeship will train your skill set for a specific role or field.
