Bhavna’s Answer

Hey Shani,

1. Obtain a bachelor's degree. Earn a bachelor's degree (such as a BA or BS) in a field such as biological sciences, chemistry, or psychology. Scored well on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).

2. Complete medical school. Attend a four-year graduate program at a medical college to gain a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.

3. Participate in a residency. Complete a four-year residency program in neurology, which typically includes two to three years of clinical training in a hospital setting and then one year of scientific research.

4. Pass certifying exams. Become board certified by passing the examinations issued by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

5. Obtain a medical license. Get a license to practice medicine in the state where you'll be working.

I hope this helps.

Hannah’s Answer

Traditionally in America, students who wish to pursue medicine first get a bachelors degree in pubic health, pre-med, biology, etc. Then they apply to medical school. I believe there are core classes a medical student must take before they can specialize. But one of the best ways to see what to expect from school is to shadow a medical school you may want to apply to. There will be plenty of people you can ask your questions to.
