Media is a great industry to get involved in, my first technical role was with a company who supplied services to the Bigger Media Giants.
You can target the bigger media companies for Intern roles, graduate/entry level roles but also target the Companies which are not so obvious to comsumers but play a major part in making sure Video/Media gets to the end user.
An Easy way to find out who are the companies who are involved in the media/Broadcast industry is to check the Exhibitor lists at the broadcast/Streaming conferences.
e.g IBC Amsterdam. (1700 companies where exhibiting)
NAB Las Vegas

Hi Anaka,
I've worked for several production companies, producers, and studios in Los Angeles. Mostly in Motion Pictures and Television. I've also hired a lot of interns and recently graduated students. The most important thing for me was prestige. If I had somebody who had intern experience at Disney vs. someone who worked for a boutique casting agency in the valley, I would pick the Disney intern, mostly because I know people at Disney and I could call them, small talk, and hear their recommendation.
The bigger and more brand-name the company, the better. This will also help you build a network at that company and beyond. A lot of these companies now require you to receive college credit for an internship: make sure you do these internships as they are always more legitimate.
And be ready to relocate. You need to be in the city where the buzz is created and go to a lot of mixers, panels, conferences, etc. It makes it a lot easier if your group of friends are all media focused too. Or your from a school like USC, that has a built in foot in the door. It's very clique-y, but that can be great when trying to find a job or internship.
