Hi Elahsia,
Good question, and the short answer is- it depends.
Choosing an HBCU or any college for psychology depends on various factors, including your high school preparation, interests, and future career goals. To start your search, you need to understand the different types of psychology programs available. Some programs are science-focused and prepare students for careers in psychiatry (MD), while others are more focused on counseling, education, law, criminal justice, social reform, or social justice. If you're unsure about your focus, consider a college that offers a variety of options, both in science and social/behavioral-based psychology.
If you're interested in HBCUs, you can use websites like The Hundred-Seven to research the 107 HBCUs in the US and the programs they offer. On this site, you can use the 'Program Finder' feature to look up specific majors in a particular state or by type of degree, such as a bachelor's or master's in psychology. Another option is to look up HBCUs by ranking organizations like US News, which can also be helpful in guiding your research.
In conclusion, the field of psychology offers many options for undergraduate students. It's crucial to have a clear understanding of the offerings and requirements needed for each program to find the best HBCU that matches your interests. By researching your top picks and ensuring they have options that interest you, you'll be on your way to finding the best college for your future in psychology.
I hope this helps!

Hello Elashia,
Are you seeking for a HBCU in South Carolina or states that are close by ? I see 3 that are in the top ten but they are in North Carolina , 1. Winston-Salem State University , 2 North Carolina A&T State University , 3. North Carolina Central University . If your not interested in schools listed above. Here are some other recommendations Bowie State University - Bowie, MD, Delaware State University - Dover, DE , Spelman College Atlanta, GA and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University . A few suggestion research each school. Check what there GPA requirements are to get accepted , tuition rates , room and board if staying on campus ( Out of state residents) List what you like about the school and what you dislike about the school. Hint- if you have family in one of the states see if you can use their address to get in state tuition. Check with each school to see how long you need be in that state receive in state tuition rates. (save money on tuition). I hope this is a great start for you ! Good Luck
