To become a Medical Doctor (an M.D.) it takes about ten to fourteen years. To become a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine ( a D.O.) it takes about three to eight years and you're trained in a specialty. The length of time will all depend, however. The best thing to do is explore specific schools and speak with the admissions counselors there. To be a Physician Assistant ( a P.A) it will take about 7 years and you will study a specialty. I will list some websites at the end so you can gather more detail. But the length of time will always depend on many factors which you can research on the websites.
There is no counseling degree to become a doctor. You may have to take some psyhcology or psychiatry courses, but medical school is specific and a degree in counseling is not part of the course to becoming a doctor or a nurse. No one degree guarentees a doctor or a nurse a job. Jobs are obtained by promoting oneself to employers, doing successful interviews, having great internships and references and being the person the employer feels would be a good fit. Jobs are not guarenteed. In your course of studying, you will however meet many people who may help you in your career goals.
Best wishes to you in finding out more details.
