This question was answered by a group of PagerDuty volunteers:
- In-person networking events can be helpful, especially if you are introduced to a new company with new technology that you may have not have heard of. It may require you to dig in further on sites like BuiltIn to learn more.
- Trade shows and analyst reports if you are able afford the cost
- General technology information sites like TechCrunch, AngelList, LinkedIn.
- Keeping yourself open to different verticals and industries, overlaps, etc.
- Invest time in learning in what is out there even if it is not in your wheelhouse.
- Following thought-leaders and open source websites/projects.
- Use resources like Reddit, YouTube, Medium.

As several people mentioned, there is a lot of noise out there. One way to cut through this noise is to follow websites and articles published by highly reputable institutions and news sources. They do a great job curating the newest topics and their articles are widely read by industry experts. From there, you can always run a google search to learn more.

A lot of this stems for any social circle or social media. If you are already on TikTok/Reddit then you should already naturally see the most popular opinions about tech that will just appear from time to time. One social media platform that most people that arn't in tech haven't heard of is hacker news (https://news.ycombinator.com/) which is also a great resource.
For relatively new, or niche tech news, you have subreddits.
Outside of this are various websites that people have already mentioned. I don't really need to repeat them as they are all good. You will eventually come across repeating words. Once you hear them, search about them and make sure you include the word "alternatives" to give you some points of view from others that don't like whatever product you are looking at.
Listen and try to be curious about things you don't know. Research those things.

There can be a low signal to noise ratio on LinkedIn that takes time and practice to filter through but that is where I discover much of the information that I find valuable. Take some time exploring the groups, hashtags, and people that share your interests, and you might find some good discussions and links to interesting content.
I also use Google News quite a bit. You can set up custom key words and topics that you’re interested in, and it seems to do a good job of learning what is relevant to you.

A lot of good answers above. I'm not sure if you're in college, but your professors may have some good ideas as well. Follow various leaders that have chosen a technology career path on LinkedIn. Find mentors in technology that can give you personalized thoughts on what they are seeing.

This questioned was answered on behalf of a group:
1. Top leading information technology firms: Gartner, Forrester, Analyst Articles (full of Analysts who provide research data and the information is all public)
2. Attend local tech conferences to network with experts in their fields
3. Research Y Combinator (YC) companies and pitches to see what venture capitalists (VC) look for
4. Tech VCs: Southern Hill, A16Z, Andreessen Horowitz (to see the new and upcoming startups in tech and where the money is being invested in)
5. YouTube is a great resource: A channel to check out would be TwoMinutePapers (https://www.youtube.com/@TwoMinutePapers/videos) - provides a synopsis of the most current academic research in tech in a very concise and informative way
Hope this helps!

Many great answers have been provided. Look for student organizations that are associated with technology. Become active in one or more and seek out companies that will send team members to your group to talk about what they are doing, and their needs for the future. This will not only help you to become aware of new technologies, but also help you to direct your own learning and skill-building toward the needs of those industries.

There a loads of great free resources to access. Some ideas you might like to think about;
1) If there's a particular area within technology (it's a big space!) then join any relevant users groups you can find, see what sort of questions are being asked and answered. LinkedIn is a great place to search through different user and interest groups / communities and read blogs
2) Use your network - ask your parents / ask your friends parents etc to see what connections they have - not only could this help with finding new sources of info, you might get to speak to individuals who work in that particular field.
3) Meetup.com - technical user groups
4) As others have suggested - youtube can be useful - search through TED talks etc that might cover big themes which Technology may be able to solve.
5) Read industry magazines - Wired magazine; The Verge; ComputerWorld
6) Search your favourite podcast platform for any episodes / series - loads of tech related podcasts and easily accessible
7) Newspapers - all of them have technology correspondents.
8) Think about what type of things interest you - is it suatainable energy? Is it automotive / cars? Is it engineering focussed? etc - then start searching on those industries and see what technology themes support it - after all, tech is there is help solve problems - so think about the problems you'd like to solve first :)
Above all, keep an open minded, be curious and take time to explore!
