Is it better to get a 2 year degree at a community college or a university?

I want to major in Sonography, which is a degree that can be earned in 2 years. Would it be better to study my major at a community college where I can save money, or study at a university. #sonography #ultrasound #medicine #college-advice

Hi Karina, that's a great question! I'm not sure that many community colleges offer a sonography program, but if you have one in mind that will, and it has a decent program, then it's certainly a great option! In that case, I'd check with the counseling staff there to review their program, and find out how many people typically find jobs who have completed it! They should have some information on that and be able to give you an idea of how successful an education there will be.

Four-year schools are generally bigger, more expensive, and better-known at large than community colleges. Of course, you can ask them similar questions, like "How many of your graduates find sonography jobs after completing the program?" or "What's the job market for sonography technicians like?"

Hope this helps and good luck ahead!

Hello Karina,

I would suggest visiting or looking at the Sonography program at your local community college or if a 4 year college that you have researched also offers that program as an option take a look at the curriculum of both and compare. You can usually get a curriculum or list of classes from admissions and that can help you with your decision.

I also agree with the above comment and request information about job placement after completion of the program. Then you will know which program has a higher job placement rate.

Good luck to you!!

Akeeya recommends the following next steps:

Request curriculum information from both the 2 year and 4 year schools you are interested in.

Community colleges can be much cheaper... even free. You will have a much easier time in life if you don't start your career deeply in debt.
