What are the main medicines you need to know about for healthcare?

I would like to know about the Medicines that nurses use the most to start reading and studying them now . #nursing #healthcare #hospital-and-health-care #nurse #medicine

Thank you comment icon There are many common medicines that you need to know about when you want to study nursing. Pharmacology is a course taken in nursing school. So you need to be familiar with many of these medication categories (example: cardiac, diabetes, Neuro meds, etc.). And if you get into a speciality like pediatrics, oncology, or ob/gyne...this will be specialty drugs used specifically for these other condition. So to answer your question is to say...you need to learn many types of medications as nurse. Angela Redito Ichinose

Generally in nursing we look at different “classes” of medicines, so that is a good place to start. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with some of the more common medicines to address some of the more common diseases, such as blood pressure medicine, diabetes medicine, and contraception. It is also good to be familiar with over the counter medications and their generic names, such as ibuprofen.

Nurses also need to pay attention to side effects of medication, in order to properly council your patients, so pay attention to that information. Your nursing school will teach you what you need to know, and always remember my favorite line an instructor told me. “Never give a drug with which you are not familiar.

It depends on the type of nursing you are interested in pursuing. For nursing school, I would recommend learning about common cardiac medications, anticoagulants, insulin, and pain meds.
Thank you comment icon It all depends on the specialty area you go into. There are many different pharmacology books available. You could start with different disease processes you are interested in knowing about, and look at how the condition is treated. Common conditions that effect the US population are cardiac, renal, diabetes, and thyroid. Jasmine Perkins
