There are a lot of ways to "get into" the business of wrestling. Many are long, hard and grueling and some are based simply on your genetics and ability to have an outstanding and memorable personality.
Of the several friends and colleagues who are in or retired from the business, they all say the same thing; it is a complete commitment to a lifestyle and willingness to learn and adapt to any given situation. Whether you are trying to come up from a local program in your city or trying out at a major tryout, having a dynamic personality and becoming memorable... that is more than half the battle to becoming successful.
I have a friend who will go nameless who is a genetic freak. He was brought on due to his shear size and look. The problem he had after he had been signed was the inability to be himself or have any personality. He couldn not remember what he was supposed to say. He had stage fright. It took two years of working with actors to help him learn how to be who he was supposed to tbe for the organization. Once he figured it out, he became one of the most recognizable and famous wrestlers of the past 30 years.
A commitment to being in terrific shape, maximizing your ability to be muscular and having a "look" are the primary keys second to having a dynamic personality. Commiting to the gym to create a foundation of muscle and shape should be priority number one right now. And by committing to growing, doing curls 4 days a week is not what I mean.
