I agree with Bobbi. It is definitely more expensive to live on campus in residence, but you can live just off campus for a much more affordable and comfortable living arrangement. I commuted by car for 4 years and spent one year living just off campus (still walking distance).

you might want to do a break down and comparison, because depending on your living arrangement, means of transportation, how much value you place on your time it might actually make more financial sense to live on / in walking distance to campus.

Post secondary experience is just that, an experience. If you can manage the finances, I would highly recommend living on campus/very close proximity to campus for at least your first year.

Good luck!

Hi, Sydney. While I agree that living off-campus can be more affordable, whether or not that is the case depends largely on where you attend school. I am in a major city where the cost of living is high and the availability of multi-bedroom rentals that allow you to share costs with friends is low, and living on campus can be a much better deal. I believe that a cost analysis based on your school's housing costs and a little shopping about what is available nearby is critical.

Bobbi’s Answer

Hello,
It is more affordable to live off campus, but most colleges require you to live on campus your first year to gain the full college experience. Also, on campus living is more convient.
