Is choosing computer engineering a good choice of a career

I am asking because I love engineering because I have taken adobe certified classes in high school and enjoyed them as well as passed them, but ive also always been hands on which influences me to choose architectural or other forms of engineering. #Engineering , #honor #scholarships #adobe

Peter’s Answer

Thom:

For the past few years, Computer Engineering has been one of the most lucrative majors. There continues to be a high demand, especially in the Northwest (Seattle) where I live. You mention an interest in architecture, as well. I suggest that when you enter college you enroll in a pre-engineering program. But take an Architectural Introductory course, as well (make sure the college you choose offers one). You can get a feel for this career and decide on your Major before your Junior Year (as I did).

Good Luck, Peter Sturtevant, PE

Karla’s Answer

Hey, Thomherson! Computer Engineering is indeed a great choice for a career. You'll be able to dive into software development, computer architecture, operating systems, all of these topics and way more. The demand for Computer Engineers is growing and growing. You should definitely look into it!

Karla recommends the following next steps:

Research universities that offer Computer Engineering programs
Read up on computer concepts (programming, architecture, operating systems)
Find average salaries and demand for Computer Engineers in the industry (www.glassdoor.com)
Find a pre-engineering or STEM program for high school students

Leo’s Answer

Computer Engineering is a great career, but only if you like it.

From your comments, it sounds like you're probably inclined to art (you mentioned Adobe certifications and Architecture). If you choose to do Computer Engineering, you're probably not going to be doing art as part of your job. You might want to consider Civil Engineering, for instance (also not art, but closer to Architecture). Bear in mind that all Engineering branches have a lot of Math, so just check that you're fine with that.
