Cristobal’s Answer
To be a good Law Enforcement Officer/Criminal Investigator, it is best that you have well rounded knowledge and background of how things work. Getting a degree in Criminal Justice or Criminology helps but you will find most Agencies to include the FBI will teach you those theories and techniques. I would suggest getting a degree in Accounting, Business, IT and learn a language. This background will make you more marketable as a applicant plus you will find that once you are an agent the crimes you will be investigating are based in these areas. In addition if you know a exotic language you are more useful than a common language such as Spanish. Knowing Spanish helps but the FBI Has plenty of Spanish speakers. Hope this helps.

Any university has their majors listed in their degree program booklet. B/A in Criminal/Social Justice is the field to pursue. Call Lewis U. in Romeoville IL. and ask them to send you a copy. Three areas of study are required for anydegree: general studies, electives and core courses, each requires xx hours of study. Read all of the course descriptions and pick among them. Further reading in other majors will give you a better idea of what to pursue. Ask for an appointment with a school advisor. This will give you a better idea because an advisor knows the fields better than I . Good luck. JRL

The FBI accepts a variety of Bachelor Degrees. Law Enforcement, Computer Science, Accounting, just to name a few. Look on their website and you will see many different job opportunities and what type of degree they look for.
I suggest you get a degree that makes you marketable in different fields as opposed to a degree that could limit your choices.
