Jeff’s Answer

Make sure you fill out that Financial Aid Forms (FAF) accurately first and consider having someone review it for you. Keep a digital copy that you can look at or copy/ paste into scholarship forms. Keep a digital print out of everything you submit online because many scholarship applications will have similar questions.

Jeff recommends the following next steps:

Start with FAF
Have someone review before submitting
Keop a digital copy of the FAF
Copy/ paste or look at copies to fill out scholarship applications
Keep digital copies of each application

Katie’s Answer

Hi Lauren - As you know by now, applying for scholarships is not usually an easy or quick process - many require an application, essays, letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc. Just as if you were tailoring your resume to apply for a specific job, your application and essay should be tailored for the scholarship. You can save time by creating a baseline essay/resume, and then tailoring it from there (always save and leverage your past work!). In terms of finding scholarships, I would search for scholarships online that match your qualifications (e.g. your degree, what state you're from, your interests, family background, etc.) or ones that are offered through your school. Applying to broad, nation-wide scholarships can definitely become discouraging - so I would narrow down your search. Reach out to your school's advisors to see what scholarship programs they recommend, and reach out to your Seniors/Junior friends or extended family to see where they've had success with scholarships. Good luck!
