First it is important on what you are trying to achieve by doing so. Before you talk to any recruiter, outline out what you want in life. These are important so you can then know what type of job you are looking for in the Marines, and how long you plan on being in the Marines. If you looking for school funding, then think about what jobs you might want to go to school for. Example, if you want an IT degree, then join the Marines as a reserve and select a communication Military Occupation Specialty or join a 4/5 year contract for a communication role. If your goal is to travel the world then seek roles in the military around ships and aviation. A recruiter will help but it's important to reflect on what's important to you to be most successful.

First thing first, find your nearest recruiting station/office in your city and speak to the Marine recruiters. If they are not available they should have contact information posted on the door. Trust me, they will help you. I HIGHLY suggest getting into good shape as well.

There is paperwork and medical screening you would have to do in order to see if you can go to bootcamp. A Marine recruiter can assist with this. They can also tell you what the physical fitness requirement is. At a minimum a high school diploma or GED with college credit was something that was needed before. A recruiter would be able to give you the most up to date requirement. You will also have to do a drug test. There is alot of information online about bootcamp that can help you get ready mentally for everything bootcamp requires. Some things I would say to consider is what do you want to get out of your time in service. There are many that go into the military and become Marines and do a great job with the day to day. Our time in service is limited. You could potentially do anywhere from 4 years to 30 + years of service. The fact that remains is that regardless of the length of time you serve in the arm forces we all will hopefully finish a successful tour of service. What do you want to have accomplished during this time? Who do you envision you would like to be when you are done with your time in service? By understanding this you can tailor your career to be that person and accomplish the goals you want to have done before the end of you time in. We are Marines for life but our time is service flies by. Best of luck!
