Chris’s Answer

I grew up in Nebrasak on farms/ranches and you do not need experience. You just need to find a farmer/rancher/coop that needs help and apply. The roles you perform may not be the easiest or make you happy to start, but working in agricutlure is hard work, but at the end of the day you will see all of your efforts pay off. I started off as a kid detasselling corn for Pioneer every summer. It was hard, hot work, but rewarding as well. When you start asking about some of the more techincal aspects, such as veternarian, water manager etc, then you will need a more specialized education/experience.

Lisa’s Answer

There are many different types of jobs within the field of Agriculture. Some require a college degree and others don’t. In order to figure out what you might like to do, you want to learn about what’s out there. Google “college Agricultural Programs in Arizona.

Lisa recommends the following next steps:

Go to US Department of Education website and look for the Occupational Handbook”
Research jobs in agriculture, farming, sustainable agriculture
Apply for a summer job working on a farm, a CSA which is a farm that grows organic fruit & vegetables
