How do I decide on my college major?

I can't set my mind on a college major, I'm trying to decide between engineer and dentistry, but my options are too broad. I'm just filled with uncertainties.

Are you currently an undergraduate student? If so, how far along are you? Does your school offer a concentration in any engineering field?
Understand that you don't major in dentistry as an undergraduate. Schools will require a baccalaureate degree, but the major isn't critical--so long as you complete the required courses. Most schools will list their required courses on their websites. So while you may want to complete these courses early if you're considering dental school, you will have the opportunity to change directions if you change your mind later. Then of course Dr. Pinney's advice is sound. There is no substitute for first hand experience and being around the actual work. Good luck!

I would recommend spending as much time as you can watching people do their jobs, either in engineering or in dentistry. The more you find out what the day-to-day life of each profession is, the easier your choice will become. Start making phone calls and ask if you can just observe what they do. Some will say "no", but most will be glad to help.
