I absolutely enjoy what I'm doing as a Communications Manager in the technology space. It's very fulfilling to be in a role that focuses on employee engagement and brings people together by not only featuring the awesome diversity in our workforce, but also highlighting commonality between us all despite having different cultures, background and experiences. I also enjoy sharing the amazing work our teams are doing and recognizing their accomplishments on social media, as well as featuring the incredible impact our employees have in their communities through volunteering efforts.

YES - I thought I knew what jobs were available and what I could do with an Electrical Engineering degree when I was in college. I was wrong! The best part about being an engineer is that there are countless opportunities to solve problems and become involved with new technology and a changing world. Engineering is a skill that you can use in multiple industries and in multiple roles in an organization. If you are adaptable and willing to embrace new challenges, you can always find jobs that are both challenging and extremely rewarding.

YES! Thankfully, I do enjoy not only what I do for a living, but also where I do it. Enjoying what you do is so important to having a long career in the field of your choosing. Going the engineering route (EE), there were many different paths I could have taken and I am glad I went the telecom route. Take your time, find what you enjoy and work won't feel so much like "work."

Natalie’s Answer
Great Question. My immediate answer is yes. I think we live in a society now that allows us to be flexible and try new things. I love the job I do but I also understood what I liked doing and looked for something that fit what I like. The biggest thing to consider is knowing what you like and then looking for a job that fits what you are interested in. The next thing after understanding what you like and identifying the field you enjoy then the leadership of the company you may be interested in is important. If running your own business is something you prefer then just understand there may be things you do initially as you start the business that you may not be a fan of. Keep the big picture in mind and as the business starts to grow find people that are passionate about the areas that are not the areas you are passionate in. The ideal environment is working with a team or group of people that are passionate about what they do and are happy in what they do. It took me some time to understand what I like doing and the area I thought was the best fit. Now that I am in this job it does not feel like a job. I'm happy to wake up everyday and work with the team I'm working with. Best of Luck!

Thank you for your question. This is an interesting question.
Firstly, you would look for a job that you have interest. Imagine that you have to work on the job 5 days a week 8-10 hour every day (generally speaking). It is really very hard if you have on interest in the job. If you have interest on it, you can do it good and can advance your career.
Having said that, there is always something you may not like in your job career. It is hardly to have a job which is perfect for you. And, there is ups and downs in your career path as well.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about your interest & favorite subjects that you have interest and identify the related careers
2. Find out more on these career and identify what you have interest
3. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Find out the entry criteria of relevant subjects in the college
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I am retired now, however I spent about 25+ years in various engineering fields and 25+ years in the field of welding fabrication. The engineering involved designing machines, fixtures, tooling, and designs for products. My welding years involved fabrication of various machine tools, cabinets, concrete moulds and some structural components.
I loved most everything I did in both. I had an interest and drive for welding first, then I was able to get into engineering later on. I enjoy designing things as well as putting what I've designed together. You love to see what you had a part in coming together and seeing it work. I've had a part in designing fixtures or tooling that have never been made and so had to be invented of which I have six United States of American patents.
Find out what your interest is and then do some research to see if it is something you would like to make a career of. I always like to mention that you do not have to go to college to find a career. There are some excellent Vocational Training schools that take the place of high school and you will come out with a trade to start work right away.

Absolutely. As an undersea telecommunications technical specialist I have had so many opportunities to learn various systems related to our telecommunications cable systems, building safety, security and maintenance, as well as various other aspects or running a corporate business. It is great to part of an engine that allows people from around the world to communicate with each other. I've also had the chance to travel to various countries for training or on assignment, and get to maintain constant contact with personnel from other undersea cable stations. When it comes to working in the cable stations (central office) I'm at, there's always something new to learn since our technologies keep on progressing rapidly. Since I'm a a large corporation environment, changes for looking into transferring to other cities and/or jobs is fairly probably, and we are also given the ability to get any needed training for new promotions or jobs either through AT&T's own education funding or the CWA Union funding.
Look into Telecommunications Undersea Cable Systems on google for more information.

Hi Aaron! I absolutely enjoy what I do. My title is Field Engineer and work for Verizon Wireless. My job is to make sure our cell phone customers
have good working service to be able to perform their daily tasks. their emails, phone calls, texts video calls, etc. I start my shift at 8am. First thing I do is log into our network and see the health of it. Look for alarms and signs of trouble for the cell towers I am responsible for. if everything in my assign area looks good then I start going thru my emails. When I get all cut up with admin work then I start driving around and visiting cell towers to perform PM's, look for any signs of vandalism and make sure no homeless people are sleeping inside the shelter...lol. Overall I love my job. is very rewarding and you also need to be able to make decisions on your own. You need to be responsible and honest with what you do thought out the day.
Good luck to you in what ever you do!

Hi Aaron! I absolutely enjoy what I do. I and my awesome team are responsible for Transport/Interconnect for a Major Mobility Carrier. In a nutshell...it is our responsibility to ensure connectivity for cell sites back to our Network core. It is an awesome industry to be involved with as our technology changes on a regular basis. As an example...I have been with my company for just under 20 years and have been involved with 3G, 4G and now 5G deployments. Each brings with it new technologies and obviously new concepts to learn. It is definitely a benefit to be involved in an industry that is not stagnant...and changes over time. Best of luck on your future endeavors!

Yes, I enjoy my career choice of Editor and writer.
Sometimes, I must admit, editing content for others can seem as though I have forgotten that am an ambitious writer.
However, this feeling does not last for long. My purpose is helping writers find their unique creative voice and writing style.
I am overjoyed when a writer is thrilled about their work.

Sounak’s Answer
A job is ideally a place where you earn your living. There are not many folks who enjoy what their job entails as it might not be their passion. Lucky are those who are able to confine their job role from the field of their passion. During the formative years, if proper guidance is provided and/or if the person can decide on his own to focus on his passion then job satisfaction is easier to achieve. Their are people who studied civil engineering as they loved it during studies however, later when a better job came in Information Technology they changed over during campus interviews. After a certain period of time (when it is too late as you lose experience) they plan to switch-over to their passion. Anything done without the love of doing it would draw lesser satisfaction and at times imbibe hatred. Being innovative helps generate satisfaction within the same-to-do tasks. Helps others in your job might add satisfaction too.

Absolutely! I was fortunate enough to try a couple of different career choices while in college and then again as a fresh graduate. This really helped me shape up my career as I had exposure to different fields and environments .
If your college has an internship program, try to sign up for a different program every semester so you can maximize your exposure and get a feel for different career choices .
Companies also have internal job postings in various fields so don't be afraid to try something new. Be ready to explore and don't be afraid to make a move. Good Luck!
