A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (an M.D. or a D.O.). That means you need to:
a) graduate high school (or get a GED)
b) graduate college (usually 4 years)
c) graduate med school (usually 4 years)
d) complete a 4 year residency
e) possibly do a fellowship for additional training - I believe this is if you want to specialize
