Hi there! For the dental hygiene path, you have a few options to begin practicing as a licensed dental hygienist. Associates or Bachelors degree in Dental Hygiene. Do your research and make sure the program is CODA approved! You can learn more about different schools at American Dental Hygiene Association - to search for valid information. You can check different dental hygiene schools in your state and other states if you wish to move. Just keep in mind of out of state tuition cost.

If you wish to get your associates degree in dental hygiene, you do have to take pre-requisite (this will vary depending on which program you are looking into, again, do your research), after getting accepted, it takes 2- years to complete.

Bachelors degree in dental hygiene is four years- information will vary depending on the university.

If the student is in a bachelors or associates degree program, he or she will have to go through national boards and clinical examination and other requirements depending on the dental state board where you wish to practice.

I earned an associates degree and I did not get accepted the first time. I had a 4.0 GPA and the only thing I could have possible change was my entrance exam, for my program, it was the HESI. Although my score was high, I retook the HESI exam and got accepted the second time. So never give up on your dream!

I would say, do your research for both degree paths and see what best fits your life financially. Some programs offer a information session where you can learn more about the program and ask questions. I'd recommend bring someone that is part of your support system, so they have a better understanding of what is expected of you as a dental hygiene student.

More information than you requested! I just wanted to let you know there is a process before you are officially a Registered Dental Hygienist!

Hope this helps, Good Luck!
