What kind of situations and or people do you deal with as a Human resource manager ?
Is there anything to look out for?

I have worked in various parts of Human Resources and the most important thing is discretion. Do not ever discuss HR matters with anyone.

As an HR manager, you may deal with all kinds if people, from any background, with any number of questions or issues.
Depending on your organizational structure, or your duties and responsibilities, HR managers will typically deal with mostly ordinary, unremarkable people, with various educational levels, and from various personal and professional backgrounds; but occasionally, you will deal with people with remarkable circumstances that run a gamut of situations, and a wide range of needs and emotions, from simple inquiries or action requests, to confusion to anxiety, despair to displeasure, from excitement and eagerness, to anger, frustration, contempt, or overwhelming gratitude.
Be prepared to perform minor miracles, just by knowing your job well, and helping, helping, helping others to be successful at theirs. HR specialists and managers are often expected to fix situations you didn’t cause, mend things you didn’t break, or create opportunities out of thin air. Be prepared to exercise a great deal of discretion and confidentiality. If you can make it your goal and start on a daily course to be the reason that someone has a good day, and do as many things as possible for as many people as possible toward that end, you will stay on track.
Be prepared to learn to be a subject matter expert and in a short amount of time, and to be voice for those who may not always have the words to form a coherent request for information. Be prepared for HR to be as rewarding on many days as it is thankless on many others.

My mother is a HR Manager and HR is very broad and they are many disciplines (recruiting aka hiring people,) training, employee relations, etc.

There are many different functions within Human Resources and the situations you encounter may differ somewhat from function to function (ex: HR Business Partner vs Learning and Development). Generally speaking, situations requiring clarificatoon, investigation and communication are fairly common. Good listening and interpersonal skills are critical to being successful in my opinion.
