whats are the requirements to be a fashion designer?
I want to become a fashion designer because I love designing clothes to wear. I would like to start sewing clothes, instead of putting styles together that's already made, but I need to learn how to sew. I do know that I would have to learn how to sew when I start making the clothes. Is it hard to try and enroll for colleges to become a fashion designer? What can I start doing now that will help me? #fashion-design #styling

Hi! I would first ask how old you are, if you're still in middle or high school I would suggest seeking out your local 4-H office and finding a sewing class they are often free and would be a great help to learn the basics. 2nd it's sadly not a requirement for being a fashion designer in todays age to know how to sew BUT it is very helpful. My college program was half technical so had I not learned how to sew before coming to college I would have learned with in the first month of school. 3rd, getting into any college is based on your grades and SAT/ACT scores but some design schools also require a portfolio of work. This can be easy so don't look at it as daunting, there are lots of resources for how to build one on the web. It you are past high school age, totally enroll in a sewing class and start seeking out colleges where you feel comfortable and sign up!

To be a fashion designer, you will need to have a good eye for color and shape. You'll need skills such as pattern-cutting and sewing. You'll also need to able to spot trends. Apart from this one should consider pursuing a bachelor's degree in design. Some popular courses that candidates can pursue in design to become fashion designer are – BDes in Fashion Design, Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech), BSc in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, etc. Apart from these courses, candidates can also pursue Fashion Design courses at the PG level like Master of Design (MDes), Masters of Fashion Technology (MFTech). While hiring fashion designers, employers usually shortlist applicants who are creative and who possess good technical knowledge of how clothes, accessories or footwear are produced and where it can be of more use.
