Hi Ella,
There are many great medical schools all over the U.S. but getting into medical school is quite difficult... so most people are happy to go where they are accepted, even if it means going to the Caribbean! If you're serious about medical school you need to make sure you have an excellent GPA, do very well on the MCAT exam, and try to get some volunteer experience in healthcare, which should help you decide if this is really what you want to do..

Hi Ella,
There are a ton of great medical schools in the Midwest. I would say that most importantly, think about the cost of the school. The school itself is less important because YOU are the special sauce. You are going to do the same great work at an expensive vs less expensive school. Your future self will thank you if you highly consider the cost when selecting a school. Remember, all accredited schools allow you to sit for your boards…it’s the ticket to the show! You got this.

You are able to matriculate to medical school from any college depending on your performance in college. If you do excellent at a competitive college then of course this will be better than doing excellent at a less well known college, but the most important part of getting into medical school is doing excellent! Your application will be evaluated based on several factors including academic achievement, your MCAT score, service, healthcare and other work experience, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and interviews. Given the numerous applications received by each school, it is an expectation that all competitive applicants have academic excellence and a strong MCAT score. When you do apply to medical school, make sure you cast a wide net. Since schools receive so many applications, it is often not logical or predictable which schools you may be offered admission versus not.
There are excellent colleges and medical schools everywhere, including the Midwest. Any university with a strong academic record will be an excellent place for you to attend in preparation for medical school. The other most important action you can take is to aggressively seek out exposure to healthcare experience, whether through an internship, volunteering, or a job within a healthcare setting. This will not only boost your experience and credentials but will help you delineate what type of career you wish to pursue.
Hope this helps!
Map out steps to strengthening your med school application
Make a tentative list of schools to apply to
Evaluate each possible university and their proximity to major medical centers
