Where can I find good scholarships for STEM based majors?

This year I am a senior and as time quickly passes more pressure is put on me to apply for scholarships. Finding good scholarships would allow me to become less nervous about college. Also, STEM majors can be very costly. I would appreciate the help a lot!! #biology #women-in-stem

Check with the schools you want to go to and any scholarships from your state/city/community.
My state had a scholarship specifically for Women in STEM that I was awarded based on my gender, major, and gpa without an application

Also look into the field you are pursuing for opportunities, ex. Society of Women Engineers has a scholarship program: http://societyofwomenengineers.swe.org/scholarships
Thank you comment icon Hi, Roxanne! Thanks for this great info! I just had a couple additional questions about STEM scholarships. 1.) As you mentioned, there are a lot of different places to start looking for scholarships, but do you recommend any specific tools to actually finding those scholarships? Websites, services, or guidance counselors? 2.) What things might be required to earn these types of scholarships? Do you have any tips for filling out applications? Thanks so much! Alexandra, Admin

I went through a similar process and I would personally recommend you apply to anything you can find. While there are a lot of Women in Tech specific scholarships, there are also a good amount of applicants so it's helpful to broaden your net. There are scholarships that are university-specific, or just through a particular organization. For any school you're applying to, also search school name + "scholarship" to see what kinds of scholarships they offer. Nitro also has a good compilation of Women in STEM scholarships available. One last piece, look into anything that could be applicable to you, not just women in tech, but all types of scholarships!

Hi Jennifer. I sit on a couple of non-profit boards for Women in STEM and my suggestion would be to seek out non-profit organizations in your state because many of them offer smaller scholarships and speaking from my experiences, we rarely get very many scholarship applications because often times the smaller non-profits are overlooked or students just aren't aware of the offerings. Hope this helps!
