Is a political science major what you need to get into law school?

Most schools don't have a pre-law major, so I was wondering if political science would be the best major to do to get into law school. If not what careers could I find in political science.

You can get into law school with any major. I'd recommend a major that interests you and one that can help you get a job before law school or if you decide to go to law school. Law schools look most at your GPA and Law School Admission Test (LSAT) scores. They also like prior work experience, so I would recommend getting a job after college and getting some work experience first. And you can save for law school. You can try and work in a legal field, for example as a legal secretary or a trial clerk. These are good jobs and can give you an idea about what the practice of law is really like, to better help you understand if you really want to be a lawyer.

As stated above, you can get into law school with most academic majors. That said, there are some majors that will give you an advantage in law school. I think philosophy is a great example, as law and philosophy are inherently intertwined. With a philosophy degree, you will learn what makes a good argument, how to verify or scrutinize an idea or argument. These skills are invaluable in a legal profession. I would only suggest this route if you are sure you want to follow-on with a law degree. If not, a philosophy degree won't provide you a ton of "out-of-the-box" job opportunities.

Other majors that i think would align well to law: Social Psychology, History, Criminal Justice
