Hello Chelsea,

I can tell you that hiring managers in the medical assisting/RN field generally look for candidates who possess the right qualifications and certifications, have a solid educational background, and exhibit strong communication and organizational skills. When applying for a job, be sure to highlight your relevant academic achievements and any certifications you have earned that are pertinent to the field. Additionally, it might be helpful to provide relevant work experience, internships or volunteer work that can demonstrate your commitment, work ethic and hands-on experience in the healthcare industry. Good luck with your job search!

Renea’s Answer

With medical assisting you will graduate with a certificate. With RN field you will graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in nursing or some kind of credential with a nursing school. Some areas have colleges that have schools of nursing AND there are some hospital nursing schools! The pay for a medical assistant is totally different from pay for a REGISTERED NURSE, and that my dear is your homework. Godspeed. Renea Gott

Pamela’s Answer

Chelsea,
In addition to the specific qualifications for each type of position (outlined in the other answers) as well as education and achievements, you need to emphasize your ability to communicate well, work within a team, and be a reliable member of the practice you are joining. You may not have proof of this yet, but looking the interviewer in the eyes and letting them know that you know this is important is very helpful.
Good luck!
Pam

Rita’s Answer

When I was looking to hire a MA, I was looking for someone who was trainable, good record, and can get along with people. In the medical field, you deal with people and you really need good bedside manners. It is helpful to be a team player.

I don’t care about your experience but several doctors want experience. I would rather train you myself.
