What if you have decided on the career you want, but are having second guesses?
Well I'm currently going to school to became an elementary teacher, but with the political environment that I am in now, I'm not sure it would be good idea....
Do you think I should continue and get my credential, try it out and if I still don't like then go back to school?

Hi Jennifer,
I've been a teacher for over 30 years. I've watched several events in my life that made me wonder if this is what I wanted to do. But, if being a teacher is in your heart, continue to work towards your goal. It might seem that right now is a challenging time to be a teacher ..... we've had others. While I was getting my master's in administration, the state was laying off all administrators! I wondered then about what I was doing. But things worked out and they always do.
The bottom line is that our profession needs compassion, dedicated, caring people ..... we need you! If you truly care about children and believe that they can succeed, please continue in your studies!

Hi Jennifer,
I would recommend completing your degree even if your career goal has changed. This is because a degree in Education can have value in a great variety of jobs outside of teaching in K-12 education. Most of the teachers I know work for large companies rather than local school districts. Education majors often have good communication skills, making jobs where you communicate easier. Those jobs include sales and marketing.
