Definitely an advantage to apply early, if you don't get in early, you're just referred to regular admissions. And early isn't rolling so as long as you apply on time for the deadline it's fine. If applying engineering heavy weight (if not all) on math and science ACT/SAT. No writing section scores required/reviewed. Business school is now direct admission rather than applying after freshman year as it was previously. LSA is easiest to get into, Business, and Engineering are more competitive, but all are competitive. For early admissions they ALWAYS get back to you the friday before christmas break for high schoolers.

Apply early! But also if you don't get in the first time, try to transfer! Many people transfer in and most first year classes are very similar to other colleges, including community colleges.

Definitely apply early action! If you know what you want to do/major in, research the college that field is in because the application materials can very depending on which college you are applying to. Do not feel pressured to know exactly what you want to do! The biggest college is Literature, Science, and the Arts which is the best for exploring a range of subjects.
I also recommend attending any information sessions and learning more about the school! This will help show your interest towards the school in your application and set you a part from other applicants.

Other than the responses about applying early, I would also recommend choosing the school/college within the University of Michigan wisely. Applicants are not applying for the university as a whole, but they are applying for a specific school within the University, such as Ross, LSA, the School of Engineering, etc. Therefore, making sure to be decisive about what you want to study will help narrow down which school/college to apply to. Last time I checked, applicants were also able to apply to more than one school in one admission cycle, such as Ross and LSA.
