Hi Banita,
I also struggled studying and felt that I would often get very distracted by my surroundings. I found that if I would block off anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours of studying and then give myself a 15 to 30 minute break, I was able to get through more material and remember things I reviewed much better.
In that blocked off time, I would not check my phone, I would not get on social media sites, and I would not study with the TV on. I would also try to go somewhere quiet and away from others that could distract me. During my breaks I would text my friends, check Facebook or watch some Netflix before going back to studying for another set amount of time. I hope this helps!

As someone with a very low attention span, it was quite hard for me to focus on one thing long enough for it to stick. What helped mostly, is first figuring out what part of the day I felt most productive, and focused on doing major portion of studying during this time, for me it was early mornings. Not to say that I stayed focused throughout the period, but I was able to get back to it, even if I zoned out. Another thing that helped was making notes, while reading/listening to the material. This helps to understand concepts better so you can form it out in your own words, hence you're more likely to remember it. Also, studying just to remember things long enough for you to pass, will only make it that much harder to actually remember what you studied. Taking your time to make sense of what you're learning definitely gives you an upper hand. Also, remember to take a break if you feel overwhelmed, studying with an occupied mind will not help, so take a quick break, clear your mind, and make sure you can come back to study with an open mind. Most importantly, don't doubt yourself, you can achieve anything you put your mind to. :)
