Passions vs Hobbies

I am a very diverse high school student who loves to sing and act but also has an interest in medicine. I'm aware that not a lot of people make it in the music industry and something more practical will be more likely to be gauranteed , however, I really love music and I don't think it'll pay the bills in the end. Should I do what I love and not get much in return or do something the moderately interests me such as medicine? #musicORmedicine

Thank you comment icon We live in a society where you can be anything. There are lots of articles of celebrities who went into a certain field and later on ended up doing something else. You can still study medicine and still place your focus on Music. Try to challenge yourself and at the end of the day, you'll know which one fits. Esther

My answer is do both. If you are truly passionate about medicine and music, then find a way to do both. I actually a ton of friends who were in bands and still play now that went to med school and are now in residency. Music and medicine do not have to be mutually exclusive, although you might find as much time to play music it is definitely something you can do.

I also always tell everyone that if you have 2 very different hobbies/passions, find a way to integrate them somehow. Sing about medicine maybe? I know it sounds crazy, but there is a guy who's passion was rapping, and he was a teacher. He made an application for students that involved educational rapping and it became very successful.

Hope this helps.
