Stacy’s Answer

Hi Michelle,

According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for respiratory therapists was $58,670 in May 2016. What is also important to know is that they project that the employment of respiratory therapists will grow faster than the average for all occupations.

There are two resources that can be incredibly helpful to find out information about different careers, including average pay. What I like about them is that you can quickly search an occupational and see all the information in one place while knowing that you are viewing reliable information.

1. The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) - www.onetonline.org
2. The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) - www.bls.gov/ooh

These resources can also be incredibly helpful if you want to learn more about the average pay of respiratory therapists in a particular state or to find out what type of educational preparation you would need. These sites will link you to similar occupations as well if you wanted to explore other options. Both resources get their information from the same place, so I would just use the website that presents information in the format you prefer (O*NET presents info in bullets whereas the OOH is a more narrative style).

Hope you found this useful!
