A good place to start is to research fields and industries that you are interested in to get a good sense of a potential career or job that you would enjoy doing. Once you know the types of the internships you are looking for I found handshake and linkedin to be a great starting point for internships to apply to. Talk to the people around you as well and network to find potential people in the industry that you can talk to. Even if this does not directly land you in an internship you will gain useful and insightful knowledge that will overall help your understanding not just of the industry but possibly what people are looking for in interns. Another way to connect with people is through linkedin. You can message them and ask to meet virtually or in-person if they are in your city. I'd say again another huge thing is research. Research companies within that industry and go directly onto their website to see openings for internships. Find people at those companies and reach on linkedin. It is also important to have a resume handy and some sort of outline for cover letters. I would speak to the career center at your school as they will have very useful resources and guidance as well.

To secure your desired internship, it's crucial to follow a comprehensive and multi-pronged approach. Here are the steps I think will best guide you through the process:

1. Research and identify potential internship opportunities: Start by searching online for companies or organizations where you'd like to intern. Check their websites for any internship opportunities, and if none are listed, navigate to their leadership or team page. You can then reach out via LinkedIn or the company's contact information to inquire about possible internship opportunities.

2. Network and build connections: Utilize LinkedIn and other professional networking platforms to connect with individuals working at your target companies. They can provide you with valuable insights, advice, and even referrals for internship positions.

3. Craft a tailored application: When preparing your application materials, including your resume, cover letter, and any additional required documents, ensure that they are customized specifically for each company and position. Highlight your relevant skills, experiences, and interests that align with their mission, values, and work.

4. Submit your application: Once you have compiled all the necessary materials, submit your application through the appropriate channels. Be sure to follow any specific instructions provided by the company to increase your chances of consideration.

5. Follow up regularly: After submitting your application, reach out to one or two members of the organization to express your excitement and interest in the opportunity. Doing so can demonstrate initiative and enthusiasm, potentially increasing your chances of selection.

6. Prepare for interviews: Research the company extensively using multiple sources, including their website, social media profiles, and reviews from current or former employees. Familiarize yourself with their mission, culture, products or services, and current projects or initiatives. This knowledge will help you provide thoughtful, relevant answers during interviews, and convey your genuine interest in the organization.

7. Stay organized and persistent: Keep track of the companies you have applied to, the status of your applications, and any upcoming deadlines or interviews. Follow up periodically to check on the progress of your application or request updates as needed. Remember that persistence and determination are key to securing your desired internship.

By following this comprehensive approach, you'll be well-equipped to land the internship opportunity that best aligns with your career goals and interests. Best of luck!
