This is a very good question. Health benefits are provided by the hospital you are working for, not the unit. You should look at benefits such as retirement, insurance and paid time off , when selecting a hospital. And important benefit the unit may give you is self scheduling and how many holidays you have to work each year. Self scheduling allows you to put down which days you want to work, so it is more flexible and works better with family. Pay periods is normally every other week, although when working for a state of federal government, the job may pay monthly. The most important benefit of working in the neonatal intensive care unit is seeing the baby going home.
