Hi Angel,
The fashion world is exciting and always evolving.
The Pros
- Seeing your designs on people in the real world. This is priceless and so exciting.
- Your designs are constantly evolving to meet the demands of the customer. You can get into the nitty-gritty of designs, which if you are a fan of design is a great part.
- You are doing a profession that touches almost every single person on earth. Everyone wears clothing that has been touched by designers.
The Cons
- Multi-tasking, the demand on your attention is constant and intense. The long hours are usually mandatory and can be relentless.
- If you are working at a mass market company, there are many cooks in the kitchen. You will need to push for the customer and your design vision to work though the entire process. Finding the right balance can give the right product. Being a negotiator is essential.
- It is a grind, people can be toxic and try to step over you in pursuit of a better position or even your job. Thick skin is essential.
If you are ready for the hustle and love fashion, then you will be ready for the pros and cons.
Good luck!

Advantages: It is an exciting field that has a lot of moving parts and things are always changing. In many cases you are working with good people from around the world.
Disadvantages: Like many businesses it can be cutthroat. Everyone has their own fashion taste that may or not agree with yours. Hours can be long. The designer must not only put together the look and fit of the product but you're usually the lead salesperson (which is half the fun). Good Luck!
