Hi Angela!
One great thing you could do is to get involved in clubs and organizations in your school. Business is broad, there are so many areas to explore - supply chain, marketing, finance just to name a few. Being involved in clubs and organizations in high school helped me to understand how an organization runs - including funding we needed to get, raising money, working as part of a team for a goal or purpose.
The more experience and involvement you get will help you better know what avenue of business you may want to pursue in college.

Hello Angela!
Business has a wide amount of things you can do. You can spend your time throughout high school exploring, before picking a major. Also know that you can enter college undeclared & select a program later.
Generally, colleges offer areas of business such as:
- Business Administration
- International Business
- Marketing
- Economics
- Finance
- Accounting
- Supply Chain Management
- Information Systems
- Human Resources
- Entrepreneurship
- Information Technology
It's common for business majors to have skills in decision-making, negotiation, strategizing, team-building, and financial literacy.
So as a high school freshman, here's some ways you can build these skills:
- Take on leadership roles in school clubs! ~ Join a executive role for a club you're passionate about. You can become a secretary, treasurer, vice president, or president. Any of these will teach you leadership and team work.
- Learn about budgets, investing, and saving. ~ Know the basics, such as the difference between credit and debit cards. Learn other concepts as you go along.

- Socialize with people! ~ Whether you're an extrovert or introvert, business heavily relies on connections and talking with people.
Making friends, or asking questions from classmates about assignments or other topics can help you feel comfortable with your social skills.
Sending you good luck as you enter the world of business :)

Hi Angela... There are many ways to start exploring a major in business. The good news is that business is a very large category with many possibilities.. you don't need to narrow down your focus at the very beginning. Actually several of the classes you are taking in high school are preparing you for a business major... you will need to be a very good communicator (English grammar, comprehension, composition) and almost every business position requires some type of quantitative skills (basic math, economics, finance, etc)... And, I am sure you know many adults who are in the business world... asking questions about their careers is a wonderful way to gain insight into all the possibilities.. I also suggest you get a part-time job at a local business. There is no better way to learn about how a business operates than to actually work for one. You will be exposed to leadership, customer service, marketing, sales, process, finance, etc. This will give you some insights into the types of business areas that you find interesting and where you have specific talents. During my career I have worked for everything from travel agencies to manufacturing firms to technology companies. I've gained experience in finance, marketing, customer service, sales, sales leadership and management. This is another great aspect of being in business.... you can move between all of these functional areas and companies throughout your career and still be in 'business'. Best wishes to you!
I appreciate this, thank you for the advice.

Hello Angela,
One idea for you to think about during the summer is participating in an internship or securing a part-time job. This experience can introduce you to the work atmosphere and let you observe how the company operates. Additionally, it may assist you in deciding the path you'd like to follow throughout your college journey.
All the best!
