Is it possible to major in psychology and then have a career in physical therapy?

I'm interesting in going into a psychology major as well as a math major, but I would like to keep my options open if I decide to go into physical therapy, but I do not want to do more than a double major in college, because that would be overwhelming. So I want to know if there is a major that can relate psychology and physical therapy or if I can just major in psychology and then pursue a career in physical therapy. #psychology #physical-therapy #sports-medicine

Hi Marie,
I just graduated physical therapy school and double majored in psychology and human physiology in college. It is possible to major in psychology/math and not other areas like kinesiology. However, you will need to complete pre-req classes for graduate schools you are interested in. This includes biology, chemistry, physics, bio/chem/physics labs, human physiology, and anatomy in addition to specialized classes.

Here is a link that has all of the graduate schools and their requirements for applying to the schools so you can see what each of them specifically ask for. http://www.apta.org/PTEducation/

Psych degrees and the requirements for schools do overlap but you will need to take the additional classes that will be extra. You also need volunteer hours in outpatient and inpatient physical therapy and need to take the GRE.
