Gabriel’s Answer

Hi, Henry! This is a great question - I agree with Shanhneela's answer. A financial investigative journalist can probably do one of the biggest pieces of their work from home - writing.

I believe investigative journalism is a field where there is some need to be "in-the-field", building relationships with leads, leaders in the finance industry, and to meet key sources "where they are". Once investigative journalists gather all of their input and data from the field, they can probably work from home to write the pieces they're researching.

To the second part of your question, yes. Journalist can work for financial services firms (venture capital, banks, investment managers) in key roles like Investor Relations or Public Relations. These departments need individuals that can write really well and understand the industry.

Gabriel recommends the following next steps:

I suggest you look up Andrew Ross Sorkin, he's a tremendous finance investigative reporter.
