Beverly’s Answer

I chose Phlebotomist as my profession because I found that I am good with people and according to my patients I am a talented Phlebotonist.

I went through a Phlebotomy program offered through my local community college which took about 3 months to complete. The course consisted of lectures, learning lab, and clinical rotation in a local hospital.

I worked several jobs before becoming a Phlebotomist. My first job was as a cashier at Hardees. I held three different pisitions at Hardees before leaving and working in a call center. After that job I worked as a cashier in a few diffreent places. Then went to work at a hotel as a night clerk. I eventually worked my way to a general manager's position.

Then I went to work at a call center for 2 months before landing my first job in the medical field as a Specimen Processor in a hospital lab. That is where I went through the hospital education program to earn ny Phlebotomy certification.

After receiving my certification I transferred from specimen processing at tge hospital to a phlebotomy position in a patient service center. From there I moved to an in office phlebotomist position, and then to a float phlebotomist position. And just over a year ago I became a patient service center site lead phlebotomist.

My skills as a phlebotomist developed over the last 12 years. You come out of school having learned the basics of the profession. The rest is learned from seasoned phlebotomists that you work with or by trial and error. Each person you draw blood from is different. Some are really easy to draw and others have difficult to find veins or very fragile veins.

I have never regretted becoming a phlebotomist. I find my job very rewarding and enjoy passing my knowledge to the next generation.

I actually would tell my younger self to become a phlebotomist straight out of high school. Before becoming a phlebotomist I didn't stay with a company longer than 3 years before moving to a different job. I have worked for the same company as a phlebotomist for 12 years and plan to stay for many more.

I did enjoy my life when I was young and I enjoy my life npw. You see only by finding joy in your life can you find you work life balance. Make the most of your life in work and at home.
