There are many options. Hospital settings, we are in the radiology department and often take patients back to our exam room or take our machine to the patients’ bedside (especially when they are in the ICU and unable to move on their own). Patients are seen as orders are made by the doctors, there are some appointments, but most are either ranked “stat” or “routine”. Stat exams take priority (usually ordered in the emergency department). Then there are clinics. Usually clinics are set up with multiple ultrasound rooms (depending on the size of the clinic) and patients will come into your room to be seen, most often by appointment. These exams aren’t typically urgent. Then there are mobile ultrasound techs. I’m too not sure how these work, but from job postings I believe that they must drive to their patient location and take their mobile machine from the company vehicle and preform the exam at patients location. These locations vary from nursing homes to personal homes.
