If you just came out of school you should think of taking admission in a good electrical degree or diploma college by keeping long term view of your career in electrical engineering. Start learning power system, power electronics, and some good softwares like Matlab and ETAP. If there is any competitive exam for electrical start preparing for it as it will clear your basics in the subjects. Following are some subjects in which you should have command for a good career in electrical:
Network theory
Electrical Machines
Power system
Power electronics
Control system
Analog and digital electronics

You should talk to nearby electrical businesses and ask if they offer an apprenticeship program. This will let you acquire useful practical experience while getting paid. After you determine if becoming an electrician is the right career choice for you, and your company notices your commitment, they might agree to cover all or some of the Journeyman education costs.
