If you were looking to become a pharmacist, what majors would you take in college?

I'm not sure whether I should major in pre-pharmacy studies, pharmacology, or pharmaceutical sciences if I'm looking to become a pharmacist in the future. I am also looking to attend pharmacy school after I graduate with my bachelor's degree. #college #major #pharmacy

Hi Kaitlyn,

Your undergraduate major doesn't matter, but you need to go to pharmacy school. Most people I know that went to pharmacy school majored in a biological science or chemistry. Keep in mind to take the prerequisite courses needed for each pharmacy school. You should check with your advisors at your college for advice as well.

Hi Kaitlyn,

Most of the people I know that went into pharmacy school after college opted for either a biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or pre-pharmacy major in college. The majority have said that the biochemistry major was more beneficial to understanding how drugs function in the body as a pharmacist, however, any of the majors would work for you based on your interests as long as you take all the pre-requisites for pharmacy schools. The required classes are usually listed on the school's website or you could talk with a college advisor about the best path and planning for your success.
