Is accounting a good career to go into?
My sister was encouraging me to get into #accounting because she thought I would be good at it but I'm not sure if it would be right for me.

Accounting is a wonderful background to have and a great place to start your career! I began my career in accounting after studying it in college. Accounting gives you a strong back bone in business and helps you understand how a business is run from beginning to end. After 4 years I transitioned into marketing, but have found my accounting background come in handy on a daily basis!
Accounting gave me so many opportunities. I worked in different countries and locations. I work with people with very different background and no day is the same. I love the fact that I work with companies in different industries.

Since you are a student, I would highly recommend with taking an introductory course to gain more background into accounting. I majored in accounting in college and went directly into public accounting afterward. Accounting can be very useful regardless of which career you decide.

Accounting is a great career. You need to like math and be attentive to detail. But beyond that, it also gives you a broader business perspective. While you need to be able to analyze numbers and understand trends, it is also important to be able to understand the economics, and business purpose behind transactions when working in accounting.
I personally chose public accounting, which gives me the opportunity to work with many different clients in different industries. I am also able to travel to different offices or countries and work with many different teams.

Accounting can be a great place to begin your career, regardless of what you want to do later on. Specifically, public accounting lends experience in project management, communicating amongst teams, professionalism, and solving problems that are often complex in the amount of variables that are involved. All of these skills translate well into pretty much any business environment.

Accounting is a great profession and affords you many opportunities in business, as Kelly mentioned. However, I would not recommend a career solely on its own merits, your job satisfaction has a lot to do with you and your interests.
You mention your sister in your question, but not much about you. Think about what makes you happy and what kinds of jobs you might be interested in, then research and ask questions. Is there anything in particular about accounting that appeals to you?
