What major or course of study should I follow to become a diplomat?
I want to be diplomat. I am a current high school sophomore and I would like to know what classes I should take to better prepare myself now in high school for that track? In addition, what course of study I should follow in college to prepare myself for that career track?

One area that you can definitely work on in high school is language skills! In the field of diplomacy, speaking a second or third language is a big advantage, and you'll have a leg up in college if you arrive with some serious language studying behind you. In some colleges, you can even test out of the second language requirement if you demonstrate proficiency. I would recommend starting with a language that is spoken commonly around the world like Spanish or French, although if you have a particular regional interest, there is also high demand for those who can speak less common languages.

Hi Jordan! That is great that you know you are passionate about wanting to be a diplomat. If you have flexibility in choosing your high school classes, I recommend taking history classes. In terms of college, there are a lot of great universities that specialize in international relations and diplomacy. I went to Georgetown University in Washington, DC and their School of Foreign Service is fantastic for individuals interested in pursuing a career in politics/diplomacy. You can see their website here: http://sfs.georgetown.edu/. I recommend checking out their prospective students page and seeing what types of requirements they have to apply when you are a senior in high school. Good luck!
