What types of jobs are available to people with an Accounting Assistant Technical Diploma?
I am considering pursuing an Accounting Assistant Technical Diploma after High School. I'm curious to see what kind of jobs may be available to me after completing that program? #accounting #accounting-certificate #bookkeeping

I would think about what type of career you would like to pursue first and then based on that decide if pursuing an Accounting Assistant Technical Diploma would fit best. If you are interested in public accounting I would recommend going to a 4 year college and majoring in accounting. If you are interested in obtaining your CPA this would also be the better route in order to fulfill the 150 unit course requirement.

The careers available to those with an Accounting Assistant Technical diploma are mainly entry level administrative accounting jobs such as:
Accounts Payable/Receivable Accountant: records and pays bills of the company, records receivables transactions, bills customers at regular intervals, records charges and payments.
Payroll Accountant: handles the payroll for a business; end-of-period reports; time cards; computes overtime, deducts taxes, and prepares payroll checks; and reconciles payroll accounts.
Inventory Control Accountant: records receipt and dispersal of goods using a perpetual inventory system, assigns costs using an inventory valuation method.
I actually have never heard of anyone who has gotten this sort of certification. I agree with Emily's comment, you should think about what career you want and do what fits best to obtain that career. Also think about your long term goals. The accounting assistant technical diploma may get you an entry level job but there will likely be limitations on how much you can progress in your career without further education.

This is an interesting question! Here is my most immediate thought: you would not be able to license in your state with a Certified Public Accounting (CPA), which is the gold standard of accounting in the United States. While you would not be able to get your CPA, that does not mean you would not be able to get a job in accounting, it means you would not be able to get a job in public accounting, which consists of public audit and tax positions. If you are not interested at all in these fields, you could consider doing other jobs as a bookkeeper or industry accountant.
Being a bookkeeper means your job is to record in the accounting systems of a company all of the transactions that happen. If someone purchases a good or sells a stock under the company, it would be your job to ensure that was recorded properly in the system! The con would be that you would never really be able to be promoted to a higher role past bookkeeper as most roles expect you to have a CPA to be able to lead the accounting procedures at a company.
One last thought would be, you can go pretty much anywhere that you pursue. If you start in bookkeeping, build a strong rapport with your coworkers, and you might be able to be promoted into other positions that interest you that pushes your career forward! Analyze what the best decision for you is. Should you consider a job that requires your CPA, I would highly recommend pursuing a bachelor and/or master to reach that 150 credit requirement for the CPA just to be safe.
